These Boston Conservatory students and grads are thriving in their chosen professions:
Augustine Gonazales (Piano '07) was named winner of the Canadian Broadcasting System's "Jeunes Artistes" Award, and has recorded a radio recital for the CBC which has been broadcast nationally and can be heard on their website.
Rasa Vitkauskaite (Piano '08) performed the Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 1 in July with the Kalingrad Philharmonic Orchestra under Alexander Andreev in Lithuania's Dainavos Salis Festival. The conductor immediately reengaged her to perform the Shostakovich Concerto next season in Russia.
Incoming student Oleksandr Poliykov (Piano '11) won success in summer international piano competitions. In June he received 3rd Prize and the Bronze Medal in the Vladimir Horowitz International Piano Competition held in Kiev, Ukraine, also earning prize money and concert engagements. In July he received the 5th Prize in the World Piano Competition, held in Cincinnati.
Igor Iwanek (Composition '08) was one of 14 students awarded a $2,000 grant by the St. Botolph Club Foundation as part of the 2007 Foundation Emerging Artist Awards in the fields of Music, Literature, and Visual Arts.
After a competitive process involving students from musical theater programs in Michigan, Ohio, New York, and Massachusetts, Paul H. Miller (Musical Theater '10) was selected as one of six students for the Weston Playhouse Young Company's 2007 summer season. Paul is playing the role of Prince Chululongkorn in the company's production of The King and I.
Shanna Heverly (Dance '07) is playing in Singing in the Rain, The King and I, and 42nd Street with the Reagle Players in Waltham this summer.
Bridie Carroll (Musical Theater '05) won the award for Best Actress in a Musical at the IRNE (Independant Reviewers of New England) Awards for her recent role as Tracy Turnblad in the regional premiere production of Hairspray at North Shore Music Theater.
Michael Mosallam (Musical Theater '06) is featured in a new show on Comedy Central, which can only be seen at , called The Watch List. The show features stand-up and sketch comedy by Arab-American comedians. Mike plays Mohammed, a peaceful Iranian who likes to bake cookies in a sketch featured on the show.
Joshua Grisetti (Musical Theater '04) was cast as Charley in Where's Charley at the Caldwell Theatre in Florida. He was nominated for the Best Actor in a Musical Carbonell Award. Josh also appeared in a Nike commercial.
Christopher J.A. O'Hara (Music '00) played 260 concerts last year with Synergy Brass Quintet. Classical News named them the musical ensemble with the most performances in the US. They did a special with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on NBC Live. Robert participates in a lot of educational outreach programs, such as the Chicago Symphony & Orchestra, Tanglewood, BSO & Boston POPS! The Synergy Brass Quintet is celebrating their 10 year anniversary and is going strong. In 2007, they plan to make their international debut.
Yo-el Cassell (Dance '97) returned for his sixth Urban Nutcracker appearance this winter. He appeared as Drosselmeyer's hilarious sidekick Mini-Meyer. Yo-el has also been cast in the title role of the Broadway production of Julie Taymor's version of Pinocchio, Gepetto and Son. Yo-el has worked with The Pearl Lane Dance Company, Spencer Colton, Seán Curran, The American Mime Theatre and Broadway choreographer Rob Marshall. He is a recipient of the Lotte Kalisky Award for Gifted Choreographer and his own choreographic work has been presented in and out of New York City. Currently he is involved as choreographer for the Off-Broadway revival of It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman.
Elisabeth A. Van Duyne (Musical Theater '96) is currently playing a Silly Girl in Broadway's Beauty & the Beast. She is also appearing in Christopher Durang's new musical, Adrift in Macao.
Scott P. Sites (Musical Theater '85) is in his 8th season as the producer of the FOX network late night sketch comedy show, MADtv .
Jason Jurman (Musical Theater '02) stars in the upcoming feature film Cougar Club. His costars include Faye Dunaway, Carrie Fisher, and Joe Montegna. The movie opens in theaters this spring. Visit .
Xiao Yin Zhang (MM ‘05) is now Principal Harpist with the China Philharmonic in Beijing , China.
Veronica Kuehn (Musical Theater ’06) stars in Mamma Mia on Broadway. It runs indefinitely at the Winter Garden Theater, New York City.
