Alumni Events
JANUARY
THURSDAY, JANUARY 31, 2013
The Boston Conservatory Alumni Association is coming to New York City! We’re hosting an evening of career advice, dancing, food and drinks. Come meet Joe Machota (M.M. ’95, musical theater) one of our distinguished alumni who have successfully traveled the path of a life in the arts. Hear his story of overcoming the odds and take part in our open discussion format. Make sure to bring your resume, headshot, business cards and ads for upcoming productions. Then get ready to dance with Michelle Chasse (B.F.A. ’92, dance) one of our accomplished and beloved faculty/resident choreographers at the Conservatory. Then we’ll end the evening enjoying drinks and appetizers at Stitch.
Career Workshop with Joe Machota ‘95 at 5 p.m. Cost: $15
Pearl Studios, 519 Eighth Ave, 12 Floor (between 35 & 36), Studio B

Joe Machota (M.M. ’95, musical theater) is currently working as an agent at Creative Artists Agency in New York City. After earning his master's degree, Machota began a successful career in musical theatre including the roles of understudy Michael Crawford in the MGM Grand production, "EFX," in Las Vegas, played the role of Joseph in a touring production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, starred in the lead role of Rent in the first national tour of the musical, Footloose, and originated the role of "Sky" in the Broadway production of Mamma Mia.
While singing and dancing through Mamma Mia on Broadway each night, Machota interned at a friend's talent agency during the day. After 10 years of starring in Vegas productions, national touring company musicals and Broadway hits, Machota turned away from the spotlight to begin a new career as a talent agent. He believes that understanding the business side of musical theater is how he has continued to work; feeling his strengths are networking and people skills.
In 2010 and 2011, he was included in the list of Broadway's 50 Most Powerful People on BroadwaySpotted and was also named to Out magazine's 2010 "Out 100" list of influential LGBT members. Machota’s roster of clients includes film/theater crossover savants Zachary Quinto, Matthew Morrison, Jane Fonda and Scarlett Johansson.
