Clyde Nantais

Ballet Faculty

Clyde Nantais holds a B.F.A. from The Boston Conservatory and a M.Ed. from Temple University in Philadelphia. He became a member of Actor’s Equity Association at the age of 18, performing chorus and leading roles in summer stock and dinner theater productions of such shows such as West Side Story and Fiddler on the Roof. He has been associated with the Boston Ballet since 1973, first as a dancer with the company and currently as a teacher in the school. From 1980–1989, he was a full-time faculty member of The Boston Conservatory Dance Department, ballet master of The Boston Conservatory Dance Theater and principal ballet teacher teaching ballet, pointe, variations, men’s classes and pas de deux. At the same time, he was also a principal dancer with the Festival Ballet of Rhode Island and a frequent guest artist working with such companies as the Ballet de Santo Domingo, the Ithaca Ballet, Ballet Arkansas, York County Ballet and the Granite State Ballet. He was also ballet master for the Berkshire Ballet and Pioneer Valley Ballet. From 1991–1993, Nantais was the principal guest artist at the National Institute of the Arts in Taipei, Taiwan. He has staged ballets from the classical repertoire and choreographed more than 50 original works for companies and schools throughout the world.

Currently, Nantais is the executive director of the Boston Dance Company, which annually tours its production of Nutcracker to cities throughout New England. He is also on the faculties of the Charlotte Klein Dance Center in Worcester and the Franklin School of Performing Arts.
