Joseph Holt

Double Bass Faculty

Particularly accomplished and passionate about orchestral playing, Bassist Joseph Holt has performed 330 weeks with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, including tours to the US, Europe, and Asia, as well in Symphony Hall, Carnegie Hall, and at Tanglewood. He has played under the baton of virtually every renowned conductor of the last twenty years. Recordings include works of Ravel (Haitink), Brahms Requiem (Levine), Ravel Daphnis et Chloé (Levine), and Schindler’s List (Williams). Performances with the Boston Pops Orchestra include numerous television appearances on Evening at Pops, national Christmas concert television broadcasts, Super Bowl XXVI, six record albums (Lockhart, Williams), and the soundtrack for Saving Private Ryan. He is currently principal bass of the Portland Symphony Orchestra, Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, Boston Classical Orchestra, and a member of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. In addition to serving on the faculty of The Boston Conservatory since 1998, Mr. Holt has taught at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and has worked extensively with BSO education initiatives. A 1985 graduate of New England Conservatory, his principal teachers include Henry Portnoi, Edwin Barker, and William S. Vaughn.
