Linda Toote

Flute Faculty

Linda Toote is the principal flutist of the Boston Lyric Opera (BLO) and a member of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. Most recently, she has performed as a regular piccolo player for the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and Boston Pops, appearing as soloist with both groups. Previous positions include principal flute with the Atlanta and Milwaukee Symphony Orchestras and the Santa Fe and Lake George Opera Orchestras.

Locally, Toote performs with Boston Musica Viva, Collage New Music and the Boston Artist Ensemble. She is faculty at Boston University, Boston Conservatory and MIT, and during the summer months, she has coached chamber music and given lessons at the Tanglewood Music Center and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. She has also given masterclasses throughout the U.S., Canada and Taiwan.

Toote is a graduate of the Mannes College of Music, where she studied with John Wion and was a student of Thomas Nyfenger at Yale University. Her recordings as solo flute include many symphonic works with the Atlanta Symphony on the Telarc label and several discs with the Boston Symphony and Pops on piccolo.
