Rebecca Folsom

Voice Faculty; Vocal Pedagogy

Rebecca Folsom, mezzo-soprano, earned her B.M. from the University of Texas, Arlington and her D.M.A. and M.M. from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. She has performed with the Ft. Worth Opera, the Utah Festival Opera, the International Institute of Vocal Arts in Italy, the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan, the St. Charles Music Festival, the Lyric Opera of Kansas City and other solo engagements in the U.S. and abroad.

Folsom was the winner of the Naftzger Young Artist Award and received a full fellowship to the Pacific Music Festival in Japan. Her students have appeared at opera companies such as Santa Fe, Los Angeles Opera, Wolftrap Opera, Glimmerglass, Tanglewood, Wolftrap Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Dallas Opera, Ft. Worth Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Kansas City Lyric Opera and internationally in Germany and Italy. Her students have also been winners and finalists in regional and national competitions, including the Metropolitan Opera Auditions, the Richard Tucker Foundation, the Oratorio Society of New York, the Jansen Awards and the Sullivan Awards. 

Folsom appears nationally and internationally in master classes, including a recent class at the Hans de Roo International Opera Conference in Amsterdam. She has published articles in the National Association for Teachers of Singing (NATS) Journal of Singing, the Opera America online journal, the American Music Society (AMS) Bulletin and the Music Education Journal of China. Folsom has served as a voice teacher/consultant for Dallas Opera, Ft. Worth Opera, and she has taught for summer training programs such as Seagle Music Colony and Flagstaff in Fidenza, Italy.
