Home/ Roger TappingRoger Tapping’s international career included Beethoven and Bartók cycles in major cities worldwide. While in London, Tapping taught at the Royal Academy of Music and served as principal viola of the London Mozart Players. He was a member of the English Chamber Orchestra and a charter member of Chamber Orchestra of Europe and frequently participated in Sandor Végh's International Musicians' Seminar in Cornwall, England. He toured the British Council in Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Mexico before joining Britain's longest established quartet, the Allegri Quartet (1989–1995).
Tapping also played in several of Britain's leading chamber ensembles and made several highly acclaimed CDs. He recorded several works on the DECCA/London label, including Beethoven and Bartók, which earned him a Grammy, three Grammy nominations, three Gramophone Chamber Music Recording of the Year awards and three Japanese Academy Awards.
Tapping was a member of the Takács Quartet from 1995–2005. He has taught at the Aspen Music Festival, Taos Quartet School and Guildhall. He is currently on the faculties of The Boston Conservatory, the New England Conservatory (NEC) and the Longy School of Music. Tapping continues to perform chamber music and give viola recitals.
