Ruth Sandholm Ambrose

Artistic Advisor Director Emeritus

Ruth Sandholm Ambrose studied with Lillian Cushing, Adolph Bolm, the Swobodas, Aubrey Hitchins, Madame Anderson and many others. She is a former soloist and assistant with the Lillian Cushing Ballet Company and has acted with the Max Reinhardt Touring Company, as well making radio and theater appearances in California, Colorado, New York, Massachusetts and Vermont. Ambrose is a former assistant to Herbert Graf-CBS Television Opera and Choreographer's Workshop in New York. She has been a choreographer for Bay Area Ballet Company (California) and, in addition to her choreography, has staged operas for opera companies in the Boston Area. She has choreographed and guest taught at the Burklyn Ballet Theater in Vermont and the Ballet School of Municipal Theater in Rio de Janiero (Brazil). Ambrose continued her studies in England at the Laban School of Movement, in Germany with Mary Wigman and in France with Madame Preobrajenska. She also observed the Kirov and Bolshoi Ballet Schools for six weeks in Russia.

Ambrose is currently Artistic Advisor Director Emeritus to The Boston Conservatory. Her previous positions have included host coordinator of the American College Dance Festival/New England (1980–1981) and chair of The Boston Conservatory Dance Division (19671989).
