Let’s Talk About Sex!

Wellness and Residence Life have teamed up to bring you this fun, interactive and educational program about healthy sexuality and safer sex.  This program introduces the idea of safer sex to reinforce that there are physical and emotional risk associated with all intimate acts. Participants learn the difference between “unsafe sex,” “safer sex,” and “abstinence” in this frank and interactive program.

National Condom Day

We can’t think of a better way to celebrate a day of love by also celebrating the important condom! Condoms help protect us against deadly STD’s such as HIV/AIDS and also protect us against unplanned pregnancies. Stop by our table to answer a trivia question about condoms and received a condom rose! Don’t want a condom rose? Don’t worry! We have other goodies to give away as well!

Love Your Body Week!

Did you know 40% of college women struggle with eating disorders? Male college students with eating disorders are also on the rise. In observance of National Eating Disorder Awareness Week, The Office of Counseling and Wellness is offering free anonymous eating disorder screenings.  There will also be information on eating disorders and body image and there will be information for on-campus and off-campus resources for anyone struggling with eating disorders or body image issues.

Someday Melissa Screening and Q&A

Someday Melissa is a documentary about a young woman who struggles with an eating disorder. This movie shows how her eating disorder affects her whole life and those who love her most. There will be counselors on hand during the movie and after the movie there will be a question and answer period and time for reflective discussion.

Sleep Awareness Table

Sleep and college do not always mix well. Most college students do not get the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep needed for optimal concentration and performance for their busy schedules. In observance of National Sleep Awareness Week, The Office of Counseling and Wellness is having a sleep awareness table. Stop by to get a sleep kit and information that can help you catch some Zzz’s!

Mid-Term Yoga with Liz Hayes

It’s time for mid-terms and things are really starting to pick up! Get rid of some stress by moving your body in a way that is NOT for a class! This class is for those looking to get their minds off of their to-do lists and to focus on the here and now! Space is limited to 25 participants. Yoga mats will be given to the first 5 people to show up!

Going away for spring break? Staying home? Either way, it’s important to use this time to rest and rejuvenate yourself for the rest of the semester! If you are going away, it’s also important to know how to take care of your health and safety. Stop by our table for a safe spring break kit and information to make your spring break the best one yet! In addition, our in-house dietitian, Janel Funk, will be making healthy smoothies for you to taste and then have recipes so you can make your favorite at home!

Sexual Assault Awareness Table

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Did you know 20-25% of college women experience attempted or a completed rape during their college career? Here at The Boston Conservatory we take sexual assault very seriously and want to raise awareness on our campus to let students know this is happening and give them ways they can help be part of the solution. Stop by our table to help raise awareness and get more information on what you can do to stop this very serious problem that affects us all.

Spring Wellness Fair

National Alcohol Screening Day

It’s good for you and those around you to practice random acts of kindness. Let’s show our love for each other and for this great school by completing random acts of kindness all day! Come to the student center any time during the day and stop by our bulletin board next to the Counterpoint Café and pick up a random act of kindness to complete. Feel free to pass it on when you’re done with it!

2013 Fall Wellness Fair

Join us for our annual Fall Wellness Fair! We’ve brought together a wonderful group of vendors who specialize in wellness issues that affect YOU! We will have door prizes, (healthy!) food, and a raffle for a brand new street bicycle and helmet!  Vendors include: Massage Therapy, Alexander Technique, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, Personal Training, Northeastern University Audiology Department, Barre and Pilates, a Nutritionist, The Northeastern Hillel, The Catholic Center at Northeaster, Counseling and Art Therapy, Student Health 101, and a lunch time Zumba class! The Zumba class will take place from 12:15-12:45 p.m. and will be located in 31 Hemenway, Studio 003.

Eating Healthy Over the Holidays Seminar (Please note: This event is being cancelled and will try to be rescheduled for December)

Great American Smokeout

Every third Thursday in November, The American Cancer Society marks the Great American Smokeout. They encourage tobacco users to use this day to make a plan to quit, quit that day, or quit just for one day. Even if a smoker quits using tobacco for just one day, their chances of getting cancer because of smoking can be reduced. Stop by the student center to sign our giant cigarette with information on why you want to quit, why you don’t smoke, or why you quit in the past. We will also have plenty of information to share on smoking cessation.

HIV Testing

In recognition of World AIDS Day, December 1st, the Boston Conservatory Counseling and Wellness team wants to make sure you know your status. Head over to Fenway Sixteen (5 minute walk from campus) to receive a free and anonymous HIV test.
