Crime Prevention

It is more beneficial to prevent crimes than to react to them after the fact. A primary vehicle for accomplishing this goal is The Boston Conservatory’s Safe Campus program. This program is based on the concept of minimizing criminal opportunities, whenever practicable, while encouraging students, faculty and staff to be responsible for their own security and the security of others. The full benefit of the resources of the Department of Public Safety will only be realized if students take advantage of the available information. Suggestions for additional programs and services are welcomed. Following are some of the crime prevention programs and services currently in place:

Personal Belongings Identification

All students and employees are encouraged to place some unique number or mark on possessions to facilitate identification in the event a lost or stolen item is recovered.

Crime Prevention Presentations

Informational sessions are offered to, and through, various campus departments and student organizations. These presentations are tailored to the interests of the student, staff and faculty audiences.

Crime Awareness Announcements / Notices

Tips, reminders, and suggestions for improving personal and property security are posted periodically on various campus bulletin boards and common areas. Moreover, alerts are posted to notify the community of certain crimes that have occurred on and around campus. Brightly-colored paper, and the Safe Campus logo (on the cover of this pamphlet) help to draw attention to these notices.

Escort Services

Public Safety Officers are available, on request, to escort students, faculty, or staff at night between campus buildings or from any campus building to their vehicle parked on-campus. Requests for escort may be made to the Public Safety Officer in the Lobby of 8 the Fenway, or via any campus phone, intercom, or call box.

Emergency Call Boxes

Emergency call boxes are located at nine different locations on campus and in the vicinity. These call boxes are monitored by the Department of Public Safety 24-hours a day, 365-days a year. They are for emergency use only.
