Benjamin Britten's gripping chamber opera about self-possession and self-destruction is set in a civilization devastated by the atrocities of war. Morality and mortality are obscured in this story of a lustful and obsessive leader's determination to destroy and conquer the last remaining hope of purity and faithfulness. Sung in English with supertitles.
