Alexander Technique: One-on-One

The Alexander Technique is a method for analyzing movement patterns, releasing tension, and relieving pain. Students learn to change movements that interfere with performance and comfort. They increase self-awareness and find practical ways to manage everyday stress and rediscover their natural poise.

Students can sign up for free 15-minute sessions on two days each month. Students can use the time to explore performance and practice issues, to treat and/or prevent stress and injury, and to release unneeded tension.

For the Spring 2012 semester, sessions will available at 31 Hemenway on Wednesdays, from 11AM – 1PM (Room 004) and 1 – 2:30PM (Room 001) on these dates:

January 25; February 8 & 22; March 7 & 21; April 4 & 25

Students can sign up by e-mailing Karen Marshall at karensmarshall@yahoo.com.

Instructor Information

Karen Marshall has been a certified Alexander Technique teacher for more than 11 years. She works with individuals, leads group workshops, and teaches multi-session classes. She also provides ergonomic consultations for businesses.

Yoga (non-credit)

A drop-in yoga class will be available for all students each week. For the Spring 2012 semester, classes will be held on Thursdays from 10-11:30AM at 1112 Boylston Street, room 3B.

Students from all divisions and with all levels of yoga experience are welcome.

Instructor Information

Liz Hayes received her RYT 200 Hour Training at Joschi Yoga Institute in NYC. Her classes encourage students to mindfully challenge their bodies and explore new territory, incorporating energetic and creative sequences that are inclusive of and accessible to everyone from beginners to those with a long-term, regular practice. Her current philosophy for students is simple: keep showing up on your mat and be open to whatever transpires. Liz teaches Voice and Speech in the Theater Division and believes in a strong mind/body/breath connection for aspiring performers both onstage and off.
