Teaching Artist Fellowship GENERAL INFORMATION Citi Performing Arts Center Education Department provides opportunities for energetic, creative college and graduate school students to serve as Teaching Artist Fellows for education department programs. This is an excellent opportunity for those with an interest in arts education, administration, marketing, multi-media and in working with professional artists, K-12 students, and K-12 teachers. The Citi Center Teaching Artist Fellows support the lead Teaching Artist will conduct sessions integrating literacy and performing arts for 10-12 weeks in the Fall with elementary and middle school students. The goals of the sessions are to improve literacy skills identified by the classroom teacher and to develop an originally devised performance/showcase piece at the end of the residency. Teaching Artists administer and implement the program in the classroom. Teaching Artist Fellows report directly to the Citi Performing Arts Center Education Programs Manager and Director of Education. RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to: • Assistance in implementation of school partnerships and programs • Working cooperatively and collaboratively with members of Citi Center’s Education Department • Attend Citi Performing Arts Center Teaching Artist Training (date and time TBA) • Submit a weekly check in worksheet to the Education Programs Manager • Arrive to all scheduled sessions on time • Provide excellent leadership, mentorship and guidance for all students in the program • Document sessions and final performance by using department issued Flip Cams • Nurture positive relationships with all students, school staff and Teaching Artist • Assist with vocal warms-ups, teach all performing arts skills to participants, and rehearse to support original presentation. • Support impact evaluation surveys and objectives as set forth by department NECESSARY QUALITIES Potential candidates must possess qualities relative to the following: • Experience in the performing arts (such as music, theatre, writing and/or dance) • Teaching/facilitation experience with students in grades 1-6 (preferred but not mandatory) • Willingness and eagerness to collaborate with all program staff and assistants • Excellent verbal and communication skills • Ability to work creatively with all levels of experience • Excellent interpersonal skills especially with diverse communities and varying backgrounds • Positive energy and enthusiasm • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Ability to travel to various Boston neighborhoods • Flexibility and a sense of humor a must RESIDENCY: FALL 2013 Location and exact dates TBD Please email or mail cover letter, resume and any other supplemental materials to: Attn: Education Department Citi Performing Arts Center 270 Tremont Street Boston, MA 02116 NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE.
