Internal Enter and Search Policy

The Boston Conservatory reserves the right to enter student rooms in Conservatory housing for reasons of regularly scheduled health and safety inspections, normal inspection and maintenance or repair to rooms, furnishings or equipment. In these circumstances, the student will be notified in advance when possible.

The Boston Conservatory official(s) may enter and inspect rooms without student consent in the following situations:

  1. Conservatory official(s) are presented with evidence sufficient to suggest that a search will demonstrate that a violation of Conservatory regulations or city, Commonwealth or federal law has taken place or will take place.
  2. Conservatory official(s) are presented with evidence sufficient to suggest that there is danger to the health or safety of the occupant(s) of the living unit or other members of the community.  In these instances, the Dean of Students, Director of Housing and Student Life, Resident Director, Director of Public Safety or Director of Facilities will give permission. A room will also be searched when The Boston Conservatory is presented with a duly authorized search warrant from a local court.
