Orchestra
The Boston Conservatory Orchestra performs four concerts each year at Sanders Theater in Cambridge, MA. Symphonic masterworks from the classical period through the 20th century are performed, and students often have the opportunity to collaborate with excellent soloists and guest concertmasters.
Recent performances include:
- Beethoven: Symphony No. 7
- Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique
- Bernstein: Symphony No. 3, "Kaddish
- Debussy: Iberia
- Dvorak: Symphony No. 7
- Mozart: Symphony No. 35, "Haffner"
- Ravel: Rapsodie espagnole
- Strauss: "Der Rosenkavalier" Suite
- Stravinsky: "The Firebird" Suite (1919)
Each year there is a Concerto Competition, open to all instrumentalists and vocalists. Recent winners include:
- Edit-Maria Fazakas, Piano
- Brian Sherwood, Viola
- Brandon Ilaw, Marimba
In past years there has also been a Composition Competition, open to all composition majors at The Boston Conservatory. Recent winners include:
- Andrew Paul Jackson
- Rui Nakayama
Sinfonietta
The Boston Conservatory Sinfonietta is a chamber orchestra which performs one concert per year. The ensemble is focused on new works as well as small ensemble pieces from the standard repertoire
Recent performances include:
- Milhaud: La creation du monde
- Schoenberg: Chamber Symphony, op. 9
- Stravinsky: Septet
- Wagner: Siegfried Idyll
- Walton: Façade
String Ensemble
The Boston Conservatory String Ensemble performs two concerts each year featuring traditional selections from the string orchestra repertoire.
Recent performances include:
- Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 6
- Britten: Simple Symphony
- Elgar: Serenade for Strings
- Tchaikovsky: Serenade for Strings, op. 48
String Orchestra
The Boston Conservatory String Orchestra is a more advanced string ensemble that performs one concert per year featuring traditional selections from the string orchestra repertoire.
Recent performances include:
- Adams: Shaker Loops
- Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 4
- Dvorak: Serenade in E major, op. 22
- Schubert, arr. Mahler: Death and the Maiden
Hemenway Strings
The Boston Conservatory Hemenway Strings is an unconducted honors ensemble which performs one concert per year featuring some of the most difficult selections from the string orchestra repertoire.
Recent performances include:

- Part: Fratres
- Vivaldi: The Four Seasons
- Webern: Langsamer Satz
Composer's Orchestra

The Boston Conservatory Composer's Orchestra performs works written by composition majors at The Boston Conservatory twice a year.
Conductor's Orchestra
The Boston Conservatory Conductor's Orchestra is a non-performing ensemble for The Boston Conservatory's orchestral conducting students. The class meets weekly, and each member of the orchestra receives a small scholarship to play in this ensemble.
