Intensive English Program (ESL)

Incoming students who submitted TOEFL scores below 79 (IBT) or 213 (CBT) are required to participate in The Boston Conservatory’s three-week Intensive English Program in August. In the Intensive English Program, students will develop and enrich their English language skills, academic skills and cultural knowledge to help them achieve success at The Boston Conservatory. This program is excellent preparation for beginning studies at the school. In addition to a strong English language curriculum, participants enjoy interesting trips, guest speakers and other enjoyable activities in the Boston area.

For those students assigned to participate in the Intensive English Program, successful completion of the program is a requirement for graduation. Although no academic credit is awarded, letter grades are assigned at the end of the program and students must earn a passing grade before being allowed to move into their regular degree or diploma programs. In addition, program participants will be assessed at the end of the program and may be assigned to continue with ESL courses during the fall semester.
