Boston Conservatory Campus Ranked #1 for Safety

The Boston Conservatory Ranked Safest College Campus in Massachusetts

StateUniversity.com Annual Survey Analyzes Campus Crime Statistics

The Boston Conservatory, the nation’s oldest performing arts conservatory,  has been named the safest college campus in Massachusetts, according to research completed by StateUniversity.com, a leading website for college information.  The annual rankings are based on reported incidents of crime on campus.

Each year, StateUniversity.com utilizes Cleary and FBI data to analyze 1,407 colleges and universities across the country to assign safety ratings.   The ratings are based on reported campus crimes that include number of weapon occurrences, drugs, burglary, vehicle theft, arson, larceny, robbery, forcible and non-forcible rape, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, and aggravated assault.

“Since our campus is in an urban environment, the safety of our students is the highest priority and we work hard to ensure that procedures are in place so students can focus their efforts on learning,” said Carmen Griggs, Ph.D, dean of students at The Boston Conservatory.  “More importantly, the Conservatory fosters a strong sense of community where students look out for one another.  This is critical to reducing incidences of crime on campus.”

The 2013 rankings are compiled from crime reports submitted by college and university law enforcement between January 1 and December 31, 2012.  Other schools listed in the top ten ranking for Massachusetts include Amherst College, The New England Conservatory, Fisher College, American International College, Mount Ida College, New England School of Law, Williams College, Holyoke Community College and Assumption College.  For a full ranking of schools in Massachusetts, visit http://www.stateuniversity.com/rank_by_state/safety_score_rank/MA.html.
