  • The library is a place intended for study. Please be courteous to other users and keep all conversation at a low level. Remember that the lounge in the basement and the Student Union at 24 The Fenway is available to you for socializing purposes.
  • There is no food or open drink containers allowed in the library or computer lab . We need to keep our facilities and materials clean.
  • No cell phones in the library or computer lab .
  • Please turn off the ringer on your cell phone before entering the library. If you need to use your phone please step out of the library.
  • If the security alarm sounds when you enter or leave the library, please report to the circulation desk immediately.
  • Be aware of closing times. The library and computer lab follow the same opening and closing schedule. We close promptly with no exceptions – please plan ahead and pay attention to closing announcements.
  • All reference materials, Course Reserves and Audio/Visual materials are for in-house use only – do not take these materials out of the library. If you do you may lose your library privileges.
  • If you are using the computer lab please adhere to The Boston Conservatory’s "Computer Lab Acceptable Use Policy” posted throughout the lab. Any violators of this policy are subject to judicial board review and may lose computer lab privileges.
  • Circulating books and scores are lent out for 2 weeks (plus a three day grace period) and may be renewed for another 2 weeks. The library reserves the right to reject renewals when materials are needed by another patron or have been renewed repeatedly.
    • There is a 25 cent fine for each day an item is overdue with a maximum overdue fine of $15.00.
    • If a book is 3 months or more overdue, you will receive notification that a replacement charge has been added to your tuition bill. If you return the material, the charge will be reversed but you will still owe the $15.00 overdue fine.
    • The library sends out overdue notices after 2 weeks. Remember that these notices are only a courtesy. It is your responsibility to return or renew books on time. Please let the library know if your address changes.
    • If you have accrued library fines of $15.00 or more, your borrowing privileges are suspended until your fine is settled. Please pay fines of $15.00 or more with the bursar.
  • Patrons may check out a maximum of 5 books in one day. All exceptions are at the discretion of a librarian.
  • The library is meant to serve members of The Boston Conservatory community. In general, we are not open to the public. Those not associated with the Conservatory who would like to use our collection must first arrange an appointment with the library director.
  • Damage to library property or the theft of library materials is forbidden. Library materials are paid for by your tuition money. This type of theft is harmful to the library, the school and your fellow classmates. Violators are subject to judicial board review and may lose library privileges.
  • The library is not responsible for lost or stolen property. Please keep track of your belongings at all times. We hold found items behind the circulation desk and bring them to the security desk at our discretion.
  • Please be aware of copyright issues: “The Copyright law of the United States (Title 17 U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. The person using this photocopying equipment is liable for any infringement.”
  • The library provides a small array of school supplies in the computer lab. Please be mindful of our supplies policy and always return materials to this area.

THANK YOU!
