Welcome to the Summer 2008 Eli Epstein Horn Intensive at The Boston Conservatory!

The Eli Epstein Horn Intensive is an experiential workshop for advanced French Horn students, ages 16 and up. This six-day intensive, which runs from June 9 through June 14 , will include orchestral excerpts, solo repertoire, and etude master classes; daily horn choir readings; faculty and participant recitals; a mock audition with feedback, question-and-answer sessions, and discussions on the audition process; and performance anxiety reduction strategies.

“This workshop has done wonders for my playing, and has opened my eyes to a side of horn playing I didn’t know existed. My attacks, intonation, tone quality and accuracy have improved 100%.”

With his fun and upbeat teaching style, Mr. Epstein conveys unique concepts which demystify issues of accuracy, tone production, and musical expression. A comprehensive book of Mr. Epstein’s concepts will be distributed to each participant and auditor.

This intensive is designed to strengthen horn technique, musicianship, and performance skills in a short time. You’ll leave with a solid approach to all technical aspects of horn playing, enhanced expressiveness, and greater confidence in your abilities as a performer.

“Mr. Epstein’s positive attitude and encouraging teaching style, along with his organized approach to all aspects of the horn, made this workshop an excellent learning experience for me.”

The Horn Intensive is limited to 30 participants to allow for enough playing time in front of the group. Auditors may play in the mock audition and horn choir readings if they wish.
