Kristhyan Benitez (G.P.D. '10, piano)
took first prize in Venezuela’s national piano competitions, the "Rosario Marciano" and the Venezuelan National Competition. He played twice with the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra: the Grieg Concerto under Diego Mathuez and Beethoven's "Emperor" Concerto with Christian Vazquez. Benitez studies with Michael Lewin.
Oleksandr Poliykov (B.M. '11, piano) performed solo recitals in Boston's Steinert Hall, at the Newton Free Library and in Nashua, New Hampshire. He also recently played a recital at the National Concert Hall in Ukraine. Poliykov studies under Michael Lewin.
Francisco Vila (B.M. '10, cello) was accepted to participate in the annual New York String Orchestra under the direction of Jaime Laredo where he performed during the Christmas season at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Vila has been invited to join iPalpiti Artists International, a group devoted to promoting the musical success of young artists. Upcoming March performances include: iPalpiti Artists International at Temple University and the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia and New York City’s Zankell Hall (Carnegie Hall). Also upcoming is a performance with Grammy-nominated composer Apostolos Paraskevas at Weill Hall (Carnegie Hall) on April 3 and a duo recital with Sergey Schepkin at Harvard University in Dudley House on May 17. Vila studies with Andrew Mark.
John Murphree (M.M. '09, composition) teamed up with classmates Andrew Jackson (M.M. '09, composition), William Belew (B.M. '11, trumpet), Max Judelson (B.M. '12, double bass) and Victor “Alex” Delgado (M.M. '10, percussion/marimba) to compete and place third in an ice sculpting competition taking place in Boston’s North End. The team of music students created an working xylophone made entirely of ice. According to Murphree, “I was asked by the School of the Museum of Fine Arts to put together a team for this festival after taking a welding course through the Pro Arts program last semester. We had a wonderful time and were very excited to get the school’s name out into the community.” Additional news coverage.

Bud Weber (B.F.A ’09, theater) received an IRNE nomination (Best Supporting Actor) for his performance as “Jojo” in the Conservatory’s March 2008 production of The Life. The IRNE awards are produced by the Independent Reviewers of New England. Other IRNE nominations for the Conservatory include Best Musical, Best Director (Jacqui Parker), Best Musical Director (F. Wade Russo) and Best Supporting Actress (Anich D’Jae).
