Student Health Insurance

The state of Massachusetts requires all full-time and three-quarter-time students to be enrolled in a qualifying student health insurance plan. This may be in the form of the student's own qualifying health insurance plan, or the qualifying health insurance plan offered through The Boston Conservatory. Students must either purchase the school sponsored health plan or show proof of comparable coverage in an alternate US based health insurance plan.

All full-time and three-quarter-time students are automatically enrolled in, and charged for, the Boston Conservatory Student Health Insurance Plan. An insurance card will be waiting for students at the beginning of the academic year.

The Boston Conservatory maintains an agreement with Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates to provide medical care for students. We strongly suggest that families review the list of insurance plans accepted at HVMA and elect to purchase the Student Health Insurance Plan if their family plan is not listed.

NOTE: If you do not wish to be enrolled you must waive the Student Health Insurance at www.gallagherkoster.com each year.

Important Note for all International Students

International students should note that Massachusetts state law requires that students must enroll in the Boston Conservatory Student Health Insurance Plan or have a comparable US based health insurance plan. Insurance coverage through carriers outside the U.S. is not acceptable. Although many travel plans offer some form of health insurance, most do not offer the minimum benefit level and required services that the state mandates, and many are not offered through insurance carriers in the U.S., and therefore would not be considered comparable coverage. In addition to the health insurance requirements, all international students are required to enroll in emergency medical evacuation and repatriation coverage at a nominal fee. If you are an international student participating in a US based insurance plan that fulfills the minimum requirements, please contact the Director of Wellness Services at (617) 912-9260 or wellness@bostonconservatory.edu to discuss a waiver.

For questions or concerns regarding health insurance requirements, contact Nicole Bihler, Director of Wellness Services at (617) 912-9260 or nbihler@bostonconservatory.edu.
