The Boston Conservatory's Summer Brass Intensive (SBI) is a two-week seminar for brass players who are looking for a serious program that is extremely intense with a very full schedule of musical activities. Students will have the opportunity to experience a conservatory-style intensity of training within a small and caring environment created by world-renowned faculty and performers.
The program is a large brass ensemble seminar complete with sectionals, chamber music and private instruction. There will also be master classes with faculty and working professionals on various topics from brass fundamentals to career building and much more.
Students will emerge from this two-week intensive with improved technical skills, an ability to demonstrate greater proficiency in large ensemble, chamber and individual performance, and a deeper understanding of brass fundamentals and what it takes to be a successful performer.
Who Should Apply
Applicants should be brass players ages 15–28.
This intensive is designed for High School and College levels but if a younger or older person wishes to apply, we will consider them on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the Extension Programs Office if you do not meet the age requirement..

Application Requirements
- Online application
- 3–5 minute digital recording (to be uploaded onto ArtsApp)
- Digital recording can consist of one or all of the following:
- (1) Etude;
- (2) Orchestral Excerpts; and/or
- (3) Solo.
- Etudes and solos do not need to be played in entirety. Please record music that demonstrates lyrical as well as articulated/technical playing.
- One repertoire list of any musical pieces you have worked on in the last two years (to be uploaded at the same time as digital recording onto ArtsApp)
- One letter of recommendation from a music teacher
All application and audition materials need to be uploaded onto ArtsApp. There are no live auditions.
Tuition and Fees
APPLICATION FEE: $65 by April 15, 2012; $100 between April 16 and May 4, 2012
TUITION: $2035
