Health Insurance

The state of Massachusetts requires all full- and three-quarter time students to be enrolled in a health insurance plan that offers comprehensive coverage. All coverage must be in effect while the student is in Massachusetts, as well as anywhere in the United States and abroad, and be compliant with the Affordable Care Act.

All full- and three-quarter-time students are automatically enrolled in, and charged for, the Boston Conservatory's Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). The Boston Conservatory's SHIP is administered by Gallagher Student Health & Special Risk, and provides coverage from 8/15/16 - 8/14/17. The 2016-17 SHIP will include many enhancements and be underwritten by Blue Cross Blue Shield. More information will be available mid-June.

Students wishing to utilize alternate, comparable coverage must actively waive the SHIP each year. The deadline and instructions for completing the online waiver form will be posted on the Conservatory website, emailed to students, and indicated in all billing-related communications from the Conservatory. Please note that we require international students to have insurance through the Conservatory, except in special circumstances, such as if the student has insurance through a U.S. employer.

Please be advised that an online waiver form must be filled out for each year the student elects to waive coverage. If a waiver is not completed, the student will be responsible for paying the cost of the student health insurance plan.
