Boston Conservatory at Berklee Announces Center Stage Performances for Fall 2023
Boston Conservatory at Berklee is pleased to announce the return of Center Stage, a curated performance collection that showcases four of the Conservatory’s most dynamic and innovative productions in dance, music, and theater, and spotlights the remarkable talent of the school’s performers. This fall’s Center Stage lineup includes several world premieres, an adaptation of an award-winning musical, and works by notable guest artists and performers.
The fall series opens on Saturday, September 30, with Wind Ensemble: A Celebration in Brass, part of Boston Conservatory’s Brass Festival Weekend (September 30–October 1). This free performance, conducted by chair of instrumental studies Matthew Marsit, presents the New England premiere of Adam Gorb’s Out of the Darkness. The performance will also include Lindsay Bronnenkant’s Tarot; Hank Badings’s Symphony No. 15; Assistant Professor Anthony Barfield’s Red Sky, featuring Assistant Professor Angel Subero on trombone; and Bramwell Tovey’s Manhattan Music, featuring the Boston Conservatory Faculty Brass Quintet.
Boston Conservatory will present its annual fall dance concert, From the Ground Up, from October 12 through 15. This year’s program will showcase stylistically diverse world premieres by renowned guest artists Jennifer Archibald, Jarek Cemerek, and Thang Dao (B.F.A. '01), and dance faculty members Anthony Burrell, Alissa Cardone, Jun Kuribayashi, and Ruka Hatua-Saar White. The pieces will be performed by senior, junior, and sophomore contemporary and commercial dance students.
On November 8, 9, 11, and 12, students will perform Emmanuel Chabrier’s rarely staged opéra bouffe L’Etoile (The Star). The opera, through a wacky plot and inventive music, follows King Ouf’s adventures as he finds someone to execute for his birthday. Sung in French with English supertitles, the performance will be conducted by Associate Professor Andrew Bisantz, with stage direction by Associate Professor Nathan Troup.
The fall Center Stage season will close with the Tony Award-winning musical City of Angels from November 29 through December 2. An homage to the era of film noir, the musical is a high-energy satire that examines the promise—and flaws—of Hollywood through the characters Stine, a successful writer adapting his novel for the screen, and Stone, his fictional detective hero. Featuring music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by David Zippel, and book by Larry Gelbart, the performance is directed and choreographed by Professor Daniel Pelzig, with music direction and conducting by Kevin Stites.

The box office is operating on reduced summer hours of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will resume regular-semester hours of Monday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5.
